Personnel Files

Personnel files for the enlisted crew of Security Division in this Star Trek fan fiction — veterans hardened by wars and border conflicts, standing beside rookies barely out of training. Some are ambitious. Some are broken. Some are simply trying to survive long enough to make it to the next duty rotation.

ACTIVE — SENIOR ENLISTED

KANE

Sergeant Major · Security Division

Kane is a career enlisted Security Division veteran and survivor of multiple wars, border conflicts, and shipboard actions spread across decades of service.

Long years inside Security Division have stripped away anything unnecessary. He speaks little, notices everything, and carries himself with the quiet certainty of somebody who has already lived through situations most personnel only hear about in briefings afterward.

Kane is not theatrical. He does not posture. He does not tell war stories unless forced to. The scars, the timing, and the way rooms instinctively react when he enters tell people everything they need to know.

His humor is dry, dark, and brutally direct. Most people cannot immediately tell whether he is joking or insulting them. Usually it is both.

Kane has little patience for arrogance, politics, or personnel pretending dangerous situations are less dangerous than they actually are. Experience taught him long ago that confidence and competence are not the same thing.

Physically imposing without trying to be, Kane carries the presence of somebody who has spent most of his adult life walking toward trouble while everybody else was trying to get away from it.

He believes survival depends on discipline, awareness, and never forgetting that Security Division personnel are usually the first ones through the door when things go bad.

And in his experience: things always go bad eventually.

HALE

Petty Officer Second Class · Security Division

Hale is young, ambitious, and smart enough to know exactly how dangerous that combination can be inside Security Division.

Sharp-minded and highly disciplined, Hale has already developed a reputation for competence well beyond his years. He studies everything — tactics, command behavior, operational procedure, personnel reactions — constantly evaluating how systems function and where people fail under pressure.

Unlike many enlisted personnel, Hale understands shipboard politics extremely well and possesses the rare ability to move comfortably between enlisted culture and officer environments without fully belonging to either one.

His humor is dry, aggressive, and often aimed directly at whoever happens to be nearest. Hale has little patience for incompetence, performative toughness, or people who mistake rank for intelligence.

Physically capable and confident without appearing arrogant, Hale carries himself like somebody who already knows he is going somewhere larger eventually — even if he has not fully decided what that future looks like yet.

He performs exceptionally well under pressure, though there are moments where flashes of impatience and frustration reveal how hard he pushes himself internally.

Hale understands something many younger personnel do not: survival in Security Division is not about acting fearless. It is about staying sharp long enough to still be standing when everybody else stops paying attention.

RAINER

Petty Officer First Class · Security Division

Rainer is charming, unpredictable, and considerably more dangerous than most people realize during first impressions.

Relaxed and socially fearless, she moves through Security Division with an ease that makes officers nervous and enlisted personnel immediately lower their guard.

She treats morning briefings like a hostage situation, drinks coffee that is absolutely not regulation, and delivers insults with the casual precision of somebody who has never once been caught off balance.

Do not mistake the lounging for laziness. Rainer notices exits, angles, and lies faster than anyone else in the room — she simply sees no reason to look stressed about it.

Personnel evaluation note: far more competent than she first appears. Possibly on purpose.

"OX" BRIGGS

Crewman · Security Division

Officially, Briggs is listed in personnel records. Nobody calls him that. To the entire Security Division, he is simply: Ox.

The nickname fits immediately and permanently. Ox is enormous even by Security Division standards — broad-shouldered, farm-built, and physically intimidating in the effortless way of somebody who spent most of his life doing real labor long before joining Starfleet.

Despite his appearance, Ox is calm, friendly, and almost impossible to genuinely offend. He possesses the relaxed confidence of someone completely comfortable with who he is and entirely uninterested in pretending to be smarter, tougher, or more important than anybody else.

At first glance many personnel assume Ox is slow. That assumption usually lasts until he quietly says something unexpectedly insightful while everyone else is still overcomplicating the problem.

Unlike many younger Security personnel, Ox has absolutely no romantic illusions about danger or heroics. He openly prefers boring assignments, safe corridors, and uneventful duty rotations over tactical glory.

In Ox’s opinion: if nobody is shooting at you, the day is already going pretty well.

His humor is simple, observational, and delivered with absolute sincerity, which somehow makes it even funnier. He has a habit of casually dismantling tension with one perfectly timed comment while remaining completely unaware he just did it.

Ox treats most of the ship like an extended small town: everybody talks too much, officers overthink everything, and eventually somebody important is going to make everybody else’s day worse. Until then, he is perfectly content standing the watch.

ACTIVE — RECENT TRANSFER

MERCER

Crewman · Security Division

Newly transferred rookie still learning that survival and training are not the same thing.

Mercer arrived at Security Division carrying the scars of a failed away mission — a last-minute reassignment that ended with him bleeding into alien dirt twenty minutes later. The official report called it youth and inexperience.

The limp is worse when he is tired. He hates that. Not because of the pain — because on a ship full of security personnel, weakness travels faster than rumors.

He notices things. Angles. Movement. People watching when they should not be watching. Whether that keeps him alive or gets him into deeper trouble remains an open question.

Kane has noticed him. Around Security Division, that means one of two things: you are either really good, or about to die. So far, Mercer is still limping.
